ping pong paddle taxidermy

the main part of our lettering trend group's gallery show was ping pong paddle art. we each made at least one ping pong paddle piece and then we filled out the gallery with whatever artwork we wanted to contribute: i made those concrete ampersands. there's some really nice paddles in the show with beautiful lettering and painting and illustrations. i made plush taxidermy deer with my paddles! i named them too: isi and ofra. i cut the paddles to be a little more crest shaped and then painted in a cartoony wood grain look. with bakeable clay i made their name plates and glued those on to the handles. i hand stitched the deer using felt, polyfil, and their eyes and noses are those plastic safety eyes and noses. and i mounted them with screws, cardboard ovals, and hot glue. i think they're cute and they sold on the first day of the show :) yay (thank you, elizabeth.)

cardboard faux taxidermy

in the same room that i hung the plush faux taxidermy that i created, i have also hung a couple of cardboard animals. i did not cut these myself, i ordered them on etsy. they came shrunk wrapped flat and they were white cardboard. i wanted to spray paint them grey to go with that room - i am absolutely awful with spray paint and probably should never attempt that again. however, after dried, i punched them out and assembled them (which was easy and fun to do.) i think they look great; the fish is particularly impressive.

faux taxidermy

i've been loving all this faux taxidermy that's been going around and i wanted to make my own super cute sets. in our dining room we have a yellow and grey thing going on with grey barnwood picture frames and all. there's a lot of open wall space in that room that i want to fill with more photos and different types of faux taxidermy. so i started with these plush guys; a deer and doe. i found the plaques in a natural wood at joann's and i stained them grey. then i made two deer out of felt (not bothering to make the legs and tail and such.) then i cut them off at the waist at an angle and attached them to the plaques. i think they're super cute and i'm working on another set of these guys with a twist for an upcoming art show. i also have some cardboard taxidermy that i'll show another week. i might try some paper mache taxidermy next...
