the houndstooth knotted bag
spoonflower is a fabric site where you can design your own fabric, put it up for sale (or not) or just shop around for other people's fabric designs. spoonflower also has a weekly contest with different themes and different prizes. a couple of weeks ago they had a cut and sew purse theme for the contest. so i decided to enter. the rules were that it had to fit onto a yard of fabric and include instructions on the fabric with cut lines and all. my original idea was to make a wristlet, but i wasn't sure if there were rules about added notions like snaps or zippers and such plus a wristlet would be rather small and does not require even close to a yard of fabric. so i went with a knotted bag that only requires the fabric and some thread to make. it even has two pockets that you sew to the inside of the purse, although technically this could be a reversible bag. it's really easy to make you almost don't even need the written instructions to know how to assemble it. this was the first contest i participated in on this site and i placed 12th out of seventy six entries. i expect to place even higher in the next contest i enter.
